After watching the first episode of The Art Assignment, my twin sister Jade and I decided to “meet in the middle” and have dinner at the midpoint between our houses. We were initially disappointed because we live in the same town, so we didn’t get to turn it into am awesome roadtrip. (For the past 5 years, we’ve lived hundreds or thousands of miles apart, and we are only back in the same place temporarily.)
It ended up being a lot of fun! The midpoint was on the railroad tracks under the interstate. We ate delicious sushi and saw a train and an armadillo skeleton. It was quite a trek along the tracks, and at first we didn’t know if the other person in the distance was a stranger or a sister or a serial killer (it was a sister—phew!).
Long story short, it was more of an adventure than I expected. And as someone with abysmal spacial awareness, it was definitely a worthwhile experience. The difference between my map-based imaginings and the reality of the space we explored was phenomenal.
We’ll probably do this again after I move to Indiana. And hopefully we’ll both make videos. (Jade’s video is hilarious.)
